Our vision at FUMC is to become disciples of Jesus Christ by knowing, loving and serving God.
What does it mean to be a disciple of Jesus Christ?
A disciple is someone who is balancing the Great Commission, "All authority in heaven and earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. - Matthew 28:18-20, and the Great Commandment, "My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friend. - John 15:12-13, in their heart and life.
Knowing God: Recognizing and understanding the nature of God
As we increase our understanding of the God we worship, we look for opportunities that will increase our capacity for the journey of our life with God. Classes, events and serving opportunities marked with the knowing designation will lead you to a deeper understanding of the mysteries of the kingdom of God.
Loving God: Becoming more like Jesus Christ
What we think and what we do are expressions of who we are. As we journey with God and allow God to work in our lives, we are being transformed to be more like Jesus. Classes, events and serving opportunities marked with the loving designation means that participation will draw you into a deeper level of love for God and neighbor.
Serving God: Expressing the love of Jesus through caring for others
Life as a disciple is about more than correct thoughts and a loving attitude, its about living our calling to be Christ’s servants in the world. Classes, events and serving opportunities marked with the serving designation will help you get your hands dirty for the God we know and love. We invite you to join us on the greatest journey of your life – The Journey of Knowing, Loving and Serving God – as we strive to become a community of deeply committed Christians.
